The Story

Here at Kirsten’s Corner, we have a sweet spot for these early Victorian flower rings. Circa the 1840’s, this 15k gold ring is reminiscent of a Forget-Me-Not flower, a popular motif in the Victorian era. A cluster of pearls comprise the face of the ring, with the six largest pearls making up the petals of a flower. A beautiful ruby adds pop of color, collet set in the center of the flower, while the ring is flanked by two more rubies on either side. Along the sides of the ring is a scrolling foliate, hand detailed to look like leaves. Elegant milgrain work, along with the hand engraved gold and collet settings, give this ring a lovely femininity.

The pearl flower petals in the ring represent tears and was commonly used in mourning jewelry. On the interior of the band, there is an indentation behind the face of the ring that holds a panel of woven hair--adding to the romance and mystery of this special piece of jewelry. There was most likely a pane of glass that originally covered the panel of hair, but it has been lost over time.

The ring contains three natural antique rubies and 12 natural antique pearls. The face of the ring is 3/8” wide. The ring weighs 2.49 grams. Unmarked, but acid tests as 15k.

Ring size 5.5

Rings like these are becoming harder and harder to find. This piece conveys sentimentality and everlasting love.
