Vintage Gioia 18K Gold and Sterling Silver Sapphire Huggie Earrings

These vintage earrings are made by the Parisian designer Gioia. The sapphire encrusted huggie hoops are rendered in both sterling silver and 18k gold; the caps, earring wires, and earring backs are 18k gold, while the body of the earrings are sterling silver. The earrings have a moody, mysterious nighttime feel to them: the silver is blackened and hints of the metal flash from between the bead set sapphires, so that the earrings sparkle and shine, but in a dark subdued way. The earrings have an angle to their curve, which allows you to see their dimensionality in the ear. The natural sapphires are well-matched and perfectly cover the surface of the earrings, even within the earrings curves—with impressive labor intensive attention to detail. 

Gioia is a French jewelry designer who finds inspiration in “the ancient idea of jewelry as a blend of artistic imagination and craft.” Their pieces are designed and made by hand in their own atelier in Paris, and are released in limited production to maintain the unique exclusivity of their jewelry. 

The earrings contain natural sapphires, each 1.75 mm for a TCW of 4.25 carats.

The earrings measure 5/8” and have a gauge of 4.38 mm. Combined, they weigh 7.15 grams. The earrings are marked with the Gioia hallmark and acid test as sterling silver and 18k gold. The earring backs are substantial and are marked as 18k gold.
