The Story

This 12k gold early Victorian piece is a beautiful example of a star link within a chain. Star links come in a variety of shapes and sizes—this one is a very tiny six-sided star in a square interlocking link. Each star has been either hand cut or punched out of the link, making it very special, as the star link was a rare design of the Victorian era. Alternating between each star is a fancy link that undulates in three parts alongside a squared link. This piece would have originally been used as a watch chain, so it has a lot of length and hangs low, landing just below the ribcage. The chain ends with a dog clip, perfect for clipping in pendants.

The chain measures 38” long. It is 3 mm at its widest points, 2 mm at its narrowest. It weighs 19.4 grams. The chain is unmarked but acid tests as 12k.

Circa the 1840’s, this is a remarkably rare, labor intensive chain that is perfect for pairing with other Victorian pieces. It is pictured here with the 14K Gold Early Victorian Banded Agate Intaglio Fob, also available in our shop.
