18K Gold Victorian French Alternating Link 24 3/4” Chain

Circa the Victorian era, this French 18k gold chain alternates between a flattened elliptical link and series of small round links. The elliptical links are pierced in the center, allowing flecks of sunlight to sparkle through the open space of the links; the effect was constructed by hand-cutting a bar into the center of the link and then bisecting it with a beaded bar that adds a raised texture. The beautiful links are sequin-like with a matte patina that catches the light in a warm shimmer. The width of the links gives the chain a lot of presence on the neck, while still maintaining a light enough gage for the chain to present as feminine and elegant. It has a nice length of 24.75”, so it hangs a bit lower—a great length to add texture to any layered look.
