Georgian 14K Gold Carnelian Intaglio Fob

This Georgian intaglio fob features a detailed family crest, carved into beautiful carnelian. The crest contains three crosses, bisected by a dotted bar. Surrounding the crest, a garland of blooming flowers is draped along each side. The intaglio is bezel set into a 14k gold fob. The scrolling gold of the fob is structurally beautiful, resembling furniture, perhaps ornately carved table or chair legs. The fob is topped with an acanthus-like ring that allows the fob to hang from a chain. 

An intaglio such as this one was typically used as a wax seal—the family crest carved into the carnelian suggests that the original owner would have used this fob to sign documents or letters. In the Georgian era, the fob would have been worn on a watch chain. In contemporary use, this piece looks wonderful worn around the neck as a pendant. 

The pendant weighs 6.9 grams. The face of the intaglio is 1” x 3/4” and the fob is 1 1/8” tall.
